Alstom’s latest tram factory in Taubaté, Brazil, was inaugurated on 3 March. The President of Alstom Transport, Mr Henri Poupart-Lafarge, was present to officially open the site.
Around EUR15m has been invested in the 16 000m2 plant, which will employ about 150 people and produce up to eight trams per month when fully operational.
Trams will mostly be destined for the growing Latin American market, with the first trams – 32 Citadis – produced in the plant destined for Rio de Janeiro in 2015-16. These were ordered by the VLT Carioca consortium for a PPP project to build a 28km (17.4-mile) light rail network as part of the revitalisation plans for the Maravilha port area.
