Bay Area Rapid Transit’s (BART) new “BART to OAK” service to Oakland International Airport will start in time for this year’s Thanksgiving Day travel period on 22 November. This follows a public celebration on 21 November to be held at the Coliseum Station.
Riders will sample the eight-minute ride on one of four automated peoplemovers at the Coliseum or Oakland International Airport station, with journey speeds of up to 48km/h (30mph), BART officials said in a press release.
The USD484m project broke ground in 2010 and uses 5.1m three-car cable-hauled Doppelmayr cars on an elevated guideway; each peoplemover can carry 113 passengers. From 22 November the BART to OAK service will replace the AirBART buses.
