The 2.9km (1.8-mile) tramway linking Gare SNCF and Le Charrel, in the suburban Marseille community of Aubagne, was inaugurated on
Monday 1 September, without ceremony, after the new city council decided not to proceed with phases two and three.

For the moment the new line is fare-free, in common with all local public transport, but this too is believed likely to change under the new administration.
This is the first commercial service for Alstom’s Citadis Compact tram, designed for cities of populations between
50 000 and 100 000; eight
have been delivered and are operated by Transdev. The livery is the work of artist Hervé di Rosa. The delivered project cost EUR120m.
