Atlanta (Georgia, US) has met the New Year deadline for the opening of its streetcar: two Siemens S70 vehicles filled with invited guests left the Dobbs Plaza stop on Edgewood Avenue for the short trip to Woodruff Park for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 30 December.
The 4.3km (2.7-mile) loop has 12 stations. Siemens has supplied four 70% low-floor S70 LRVs and services operate at ten-minute intervals during peak times, every 15 minutes at other times. Free rides are being offered for the first three months of service; normal fares of USD1 will subsequently apply.
