Sumitomo Corporation and Nippon Sharyo have won the contract to supply 16 trains to Indonesia’s first metro line. MRT Jakarta awarded the JPY13bn (EUR0.1bn) contract to the consortium, who will deliver the six-car trains in 2017.

Construction of the 15.7km (9.8-mile) line started in 2013, which will connect Bundaran Hi in central Jakarta with Lebak Bulus in the south of the city. Line 1 is predicted to serve 173 000 passengers per day when it opens in 2018.
