Keelung – Taipei tram-train link announced

Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-wen, has announced a new NTD8.1bn (EUR0.25bn) tram-train link to be built between Keelung and the Taipei City District of Nangang.

Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-wen, has announced a new NTD8.1bn (EUR0.25bn) tram-train link to be built between Keelung and the Taipei City District of Nangang.

Keelung harbour currently has a traditional rail link, but the new tram-train link to Taipei’s mass rapid transit subway system should be ready by 2022. The project is dubbed to be “Keelung’s biggest public construction project in 30 years”.

Each tram, which it is suggested will be European-sourced, would carry 500 passengers, stopping near the Nangang Expo in Taipei to transfer to either the MRT system or the high-speed line to Kaohsiung.
