Modertrans was the sole bidder for the supply of three single-section trams to the 16km (9.9-mile) metre-gauge tramway in the Polish city of Elbląg. The bid, opened on 17 May, has a gross price of PLN7.1m (EUR1.7m). The tender specified 30% low-floor single-section trams with a length of 14-15.5m.
Modertrans would provide a 36-month warranty on the transmission, batteries, traction motors and inverters, as well as repair packages and maintenance equipment. A separate 84-month warranty includes corrosion protection. The vehicles are to be delivered within 24 months of the city obtaining EU funds to pay for the order, expected later this year.
In recent years Elbląg has acquired six second-hand Duewag M8C trams from the German cities of Augsburg and Mülheim an der Ruhr, the three from Augsburg being modernised with low-floor sections.
