St Petersburg’s metro Line 3, Russia, is to receive a further eight six-car trainsets from Skoda Transportation subsidiary OOO Vagonmas.

The first set will be delivered this year, with two sets in 2016 and five in 2017. Manufactured in St Petersburg, the new vehicles will be lighter than those of the existing fleet due to the use of sandwiched aluminium panelling. Regenerative braking will also create an energy saving of up to 30%.

Skoda has already supplied nine NeVa sets to St Petersburg, which entered service in 2013. This new contract, to be signed within the next few days, is valued at RUB3.8bn (EUR0.06bn).
