Rabat light rail extension gets go-ahead

An extension to the two-line light rail network in Rabat, Morocco’s capital, has been approved.

An extension to the two-line light rail network in Rabat, Morocco’s capital, has been approved after the Municipal Council voted unanimously in its favour. The first extension since the opening of the initial 19km (11.8-mile) phase of the Rabat-Salé Tramway in 2011 will add a further 2.3km (1.4 miles) to Line T2 from its terminus at Moulay Youssef Hospital to the A1 Kifah Boulevard and Assalam Boulevard intersection. An increased capacity of 10 000 passengers per day are predicted.

Tenders for contract are due to be issued in the next few months.
