Up to GBP50 000 (EUR55 500) is being given to an initial 15 schemes to develop feasibility studies under the GBP500m (EUR554m) Restoring Your Railway Fund. Part of the Government’s effort to ‘build back better’, the initiative is intended to facilitate the re-opening of lines closed during the country’s so-called Beeching cuts of the 1960s.

Other projects include restoring rail services to Consett in England’s north-east, and around Ashfield in Nottinghamshire.
