Saint-Étienne selects CAF

CAF has been selected to supply 16 Urbos low-floor trams to the metre-gauge network in the French city of Saint-Étienne. The contract is worth EUR42m, with the first trams scheduled for delivery in early 2016.

In contrast to the current fleet of Alstom TFS low-floor trams, the new 33m five-section vehicles will be bi-directional and narrower than a traditional Urbos at 2.15m wide.

This is the fourth major French order for the Spanish manufacturer in recent years, following orders from Nantes and Besançon for new trams and the EUR25m contract to refurbish Lyon’s Metro.
