Samarkand, Uzbekistan, inaugurated the initial phase of its first tram network on 15 April. Construction started just six months ago.
The 6.4km (four-mile) north-south line links the city’s main railway station with Sartepa Massivi in Sat Tepo, with services running 06.00-23.00.
The line will be worked by a fleet of Pragiomex VarioLF vehicles acquired from Tashkent.
With a total four-line, 34.8m (21.6-mile) network planned, the next phase is already underway on a 5km (3.1-mile) line from the main station to Siab Bazaar.
