San Francisco exercises Siemens option

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will exercise a USD210m option with Siemens to provide an additional 40 SF200 low-floor vehicles.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will exercise a USD210m option with Siemens to provide an additional 40 SF200 low-floor vehicles. This will bring the total order to 215 vehicles.A contract worth USD648m was signed last year for 175 SF200s between SFMTA and Siemens, with the first prototype to be delivered in December 2016. Another 23 units are to be delivered by 2018.

There is a final option from Siemens for a further 45 vehicles, which would take the SF200 fleet to 260 – forecast growths for 2027-30 indicate that exercising this option might well be necessary to meet predicted ridership figures.
