Funding has been awarded for the Seattle light rail expansion that will build the 23.3km (14.5-mile) East Link light rail line, connecting the city centre with Bellevue and Redmond.PUGET Sound regional transport authority Sound Transit has been awarded a federal loan of USD1.33bn to fund the expansion.

The project, costing USD4bn, will include ten new stations and is expected to be complete by 2023. A passenger rate of 50 000 p/d by 2030 is forecast.
