Four consortia have been announced to prequalify for the competition to build Tampere’s tram link. These include:
- Lemminkäinen, Ramboll, Alstom and Insinöörit Suunnittelu
- Destia, Siemens and Sito
- VR Track, YIT and Pöyry
A point scoring system was used to assess the consortia, with a maximum possible score of 160. The Finnish-Danish-French group of Lemminkäinen, Ramboll, Alstom and Insinöörit Suunnittelu had the highest score of 137.75 points.
The EUR250m, 23.5km (14.6-mile) project is to be split into phases, with the first phase linking the Finnish city centre with the suburb of Hervanta. An extension will then run to Tampere’s hospital and the Lentävänniemi suburb by 2022. The tender for a fleet of 23 low-floor LRVs is still to be issued, while the City Council’s plans to implement the project are expected to be finalised next year.
Projected passenger rate upon completion in 2018-19 is around 40,000 p/day.
