The proposed light rail line for the Indian city of Hyderabad will be extended from a 2.3km (1.4 miles) starter line to 10.5km (6.5 miles), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has announced.

The first phase will run from Tank Bund to Madina near Charminar, although its full length will run 25km (15.5 miles).

The system is to be modelled on the tramway in the French city of Bordeaux, with a French team headed by its minister for the region (Asia) Jean Marc Fenet assisting the Telangana Government in funding and developing the system in Hyderabad city.

Phase 2 of the project will likely to be from Golconda Fort to Qutub Shahi Tombs.
