Tramway stables saved

The Isle of Man’s Tramway Terrace stables have been bought for IMP600 000 (EUR682 000) by the Department of Infrastructure.

The Isle of Man’s Tramway Terrace stables have been bought for IMP600 000 (EUR682 000) from Douglas Borough Council by the Department of Infrastructure. The government body has said this supports its plans for the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway’s operation and for the regeneration of the Promenade in the Island’s capital.

A planning application for temporary facilities on the Summerland site was approved in 2017, but the DoI said that following a review of options it is considered more cost-effective to buy the existing building, which will also retain heritage infrastructure.
