UKTram bolsters engineering capacity

Phillip Terry: UKTram Lead Engineer

UKTram has announced the appointment of Phillip Terry as Lead Engineer, taking forward a number of key initiatives as the trade body seeks to grow its engineering competence and enhance collaboration between the sector.

Mr Terry joins from Nottingham Express Transit operator Nottingham Trams, where he held the position of Technical Support Manager. Joining the tramway’s engineering staff two years ahead of the 2004 opening, he started as one of six infrastructure technicians responsible for track, power, signalling, supervisory, control and communication systems.

In the following years, he completed an MSC in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration from Birmingham University, led the expansion of Nottingham’s Wilkinson Street depot and played a key role during the tramway’s expansion from a single route into a three-line network. With particular expertise in overhead line maintenance, he recently completed a PWI Electrification Engineering Diploma.

Mr Terry said: “I’m looking forward to sharing my experience of asset maintenance and management while fulfilling a desire to learn, improve standards and assist in the implementation and sharing of best practice.”
