USD990m agreed for Medellín LRT

In early December, Colombian President Iván Duque and Medellín Mayor Daniel Quintero signed a financing agreement for the city’s COP2.5trn (USD990m) 13.5km (8.4-mile) light rail project.

In early December, Colombian President Iván Duque and Medellín Mayor Daniel Quintero signed a financing agreement for the city’s COP2.5trn (USD990m) 13.5km (8.4-mile) light rail project. The national government will cover 70% of the project’s costs, with the city contributing 30%.

The 17-stop line will run through the city along Avenida 80, with construction tenders to be launched in early 2021 and works beginning later in the year.

From its agreed 2021 budget (COP6.1trn/EUR1.45bn), some 76% is confirmed for investment programmes, according to the city government.
