VDV: ‘Public transport is not a corona hotspot’

Research by the German public transport association Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (VDV) reveals that coronavirus cases amongst members’ employees are less than half those of the wider population.

Of 94 operators surveyed, comprising around 80 000 staff, just 233 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded since the start of the pandemic. This corresponds to a rate of 0.29%, while instances amongst the general population nationally were 0.54% (as of 27 October). Just nine of those 233 cases have been traced back to their work duties.

VDV President Ingo Wortmann commented: “This clearly underpins what various national and international scientific studies and independent experts have already established: public transport is not a corona hotspot.

“If you adhere to the rules… the risk of infection is very low. For our passengers even less than so for the employees.”
